The UK has a diverse defence industry, from some of the world’s largest defence and aerospace companies to thousands of SMEs, technology businesses, engineering companies and specialist suppliers.

Many employers advertise opportunities directly through their own careers websites. Exploring the organisations that interest you – and setting up job alerts where available – is a great place to start.

Look beyond the familiar names

Some of the most interesting opportunities in defence can be found in smaller and specialist organisations.

Across the UK, companies are working in cyber, AI, software, advanced manufacturing, space, communications, autonomy and emerging technologies – as well as the engineering and manufacturing traditionally associated with defence.

Exploring the wider defence supply chain can introduce you to employers and careers you may not have considered before.
