…And we couldn’t agree more.
Following on from a jam packed night full of glitz, glamour, and grace at the 2023 Women in Defence UK Awards in London, we at Women in Defence Careers are celebrating all of the incredibly inspirational shortlisted people, finalists, and winners of the awards from across the armed forces, civil service, and industry.
We’re especially celebrating and extending a HUGE congratulations to the Woman of the Year 2023 – Chief Technician Emma Morgan, of the Royal Air Force.
Currently based at RAF Cosford, and one of those heading up the training squadron there, Emma is RAF through and through, and very much embodies the WiD slogan: Deeds Not Words. By all accounts, bringing positivity and resilience to those all around her, Emma’s experience as an aircraft technician in the RAF is a hugely important one to women aspiring to enter a technical field…well, important to anyone aspiring to enter such a technical field. We know we are!
Starting her career in the RAF in June 2001, Emma has continued on a pathway that traditionally would have been very male dominated – moving forwards against inevitable adversity at the time, and continuing her career to the point where she is today. Grit, determination, and constant learning has brought Chief Technician Morgan from the rank of Air Specialist, all the way to Chief Technician at the Defence College of Technical Training – a senior Non-Commissioned Officer, and one of the highest ranks that an enlisted person can achieve in the RAF.
It’s an incredible achievement for her and for women everywhere, and her outlook on life, drive to turn negatives into positives, and overcome obstacles is inspiring to us, and no doubt to everyone present at the Women in Defence Awards 2023.
Congratulations Chief, and may your rise continue, through hard work, to the stars!
